Gardens, walks and lunches

I'd never met anyone like her before. I thought she was so posh! She read poetry and painted...she listened to Radio 4. She even had classical music records! Would she like me? Would we have anything in common? How would she take to this skinny boy who was as taking her daughter out in a rusty old Mini?

Why was I worried? Since 1984 she has supported us, cared for us and became the most amazing Grandmother to William. We would talk for hours, putting the world to rights. Sharing stories about being teachers and the characters we have encountered. She has been a constant reminder to me that what matters is people and how we treat each other. She is an inspiration to me on a daily basis and I often think of her when I'm faced with a young upset child.

Knowing her has been a privilege and I am the better man for it.

Thanks for the gardens, the walks and the lunches.....oh and all the Baileys.
